SIXTYFOUR DESIGN — 64xo
This page is a terminal. It needs JavaScript. Here is the same material, plainly.
64 is 26 — six binary choices, fully enumerated. It is the smallest
number after 1 that is both a square and a cube: 8² = 4³ = 64. Biology
settled on it (4 bases in triplets = 64 codons, the complete instruction set for
every living thing). The I Ching settled on it three thousand years earlier
(6 lines, 2 states, 64 hexagrams). The chessboard is 8×8. The Commodore 64
was 64 KB; we stopped at 64 bits because it addresses more memory than we will
ever build. Base64 is how binary matter travels through channels built for text.
64 is where “enough to express everything” keeps landing. We named the
studio after the number everyone keeps agreeing on.
